Carburetors were a common fuel delivery system used in Classic Volvos, particularly in models manufactured before the 1980s. These carburetors, also known as carburettors, were responsible for mixing fuel and air in the correct ratio to provide the engine with the proper amount of fuel for combustion.

One of the most popular carburetors used in Classic Volvos was the SU carburetor. This carburetor was manufactured by the SU Carburettor Company, which was based in the UK. The SU carburetor was known for its simple design and ease of tuning, making it a popular choice among car enthusiasts and mechanics.

Another carburetor commonly used in Classic Volvos was the Zenith-Stromberg carburetor. This carburetor was manufactured by the Zenith Carburettor Company, which was based in the US. The Zenith-Stromberg carburetor was known for its reliability and durability, and was used in a wide range of vehicles, including classic Volvos.

Both SU and Zenith-Stromberg carburetors have been phased out of production due to the advancement of technology and the stricter emission regulations. Nowadays, classic Volvo's carburetors are mostly maintained and rebuilt by specialists or enthusiasts.

Overall, carburetors played a crucial role in the performance of Classic Volvos and their longevity. Although they are not used anymore in modern vehicles, classic Volvo enthusiasts still appreciate the simplicity and reliability of these carburetors.
